Peace (What the World Needs Now)

This special concert is dedicated to the theme of peace in light of recent and current conflicts in the world. Mark Ferguson performing on organ and piano, guitarist Alex Moxon, and Scott Latham performing on drums and vibes, will present a diverse program of powerful, moving, thought-provoking music from composers including Burt Bacharach, Horace Silver, Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington, and more.

About the musicians
Mark Ferguson has performed with many of the world’s great artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Nelson Riddle, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Tom Jones, Rosemary Clooney, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Gino Vanelli, Rob McConnell & the Boss Brass, Holly Cole, Manteca, The Funk Brothers and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Mark is a Faculty Lecturer (jazz, trombone) at McGill University, a Performance Instructor (Jazz Piano/Trombone)/ Sessional Lecturer at Carleton University and is active as a jazz clinician at high schools and universities across Canada.
Alex Moxon has performed and collaborated as a guitarist with many stylistically far-flung Canadian music mainstays while continuing to create, refine, and release his own music. Some of his favourite past musical experiences include opening for Fred Wesley (of James Brown & The JB’s) and Bernie Worrell (of Parliament Funkadelic), performing with the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces as the feature guitarist in their 2112: Rush Tribute show, sold-out record releases with The Chocolate Hot Pockets and with HILOTRONS, performing in the pit for the Broadway musical Beautiful (The Carole King Story), a 3 a.m duo set of freely improvised music and deconstructions of Spice Girls hits with drummer Michel Delage during the Ottawa Jazz Festival’s 24-Hour Jazz Ramble, and performing with Candian indigenous superstar Iskwe and NACO at the 2019 National Arts Centre Gala.
Scott Latham is a vibraphonist, percussionist and drummer originally from Nova Scotia. In addition to being active on the local freelance and jazz scenes here in Ottawa, he performs full-time as a member of the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces. Scott is in great demand and has recorded and performed with many artists including Mark Ferguson, the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force Band.
