Mingus Between Two Cities
May 15, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

The music of Mingus has always been, and will always be, not only immensely enjoyable to listen to (and perform), but so critically important for the way in which Mingus used his music as a medium for commentary on racial discrimination, not only in the USA, but around the world.
Even so many decades later, we have come so far but yet still have so far to go, as evidenced by recent events. Appreciating the music of Mingus is an incredible opportunity for us to both have a great time performing and listening to his unique music while also raising our awareness of inequality as it still exists today in so many forms.
This show will feature the music of Charles Mingus performed by a 7-piece band with the rhythm section and horn section each split between Ottawa and Toronto. Yeah it’s crazy but at syncspace.live we’re all about pushing the envelope!
Join us for a rousing, raucous, free-spirited, free-wheeling exploration of Mingus’s most compelling compositions infused with the sounds of hard bop, soul, gospel, and blues. Featuring a hard-hitting band performing across 500 kms:
Ed Lister – trumpet
David Renaud – alto saxophone
Trevor Hogg – tenor saxophone
Mark Ferguson – trombone
Mike Manny – piano
Michael Herring – double bass
Tim Shia – drums
With some storytelling and virtual bandleading from bassist and syncspace.live founder Adrian Cho.
