About the musicians

Mark Ferguson has performed with many of the world’s great artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Nelson Riddle, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Tom Jones, Rosemary Clooney, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Gino Vanelli, Rob McConnell & the Boss Brass, Holly Cole, Manteca, The Funk Brothers and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Mark is a Faculty Lecturer (jazz, trombone) at McGill University, a Performance Instructor (Jazz Piano/Trombone)/ Sessional Lecturer at Carleton University and is active as a jazz clinician at high schools and universities across Canada.

Peter Hum has been a mainstay of the city’s jazz community for almost three decades. He has released three albums of original modern mainstream jazz. His latest recording, Ordinary Heroes, a collection of 10 compositions that respond to today’s social and political tumult, was released online in the fall of 2019 thanks to grants from the Ontario Arts Council and City of Ottawa. Previously, Peter released his second album, Alpha Moment in 2015, and his debut recording, A Boy’s Journey, in 2010.  Peter counts himself very fortunate to have performed with such Canadian jazz legends as Sonny Greenwich, Phil Nimmons, Pat LaBarbera and Reg Schwager. Over the years, Peter’s own projects have included such esteemed colleagues as the saxophonists Kenji Omae, Joel Miller, Frank Lozano and Mike Allen, guitarist Mike Rud and Roddy Ellias, and drummers Ted Warren, Dave Laing, Dave Robbins and Andre White.

Mike Manny has been immersed in the world of music since the tender age of 4. Originally from Toronto, he studied at Humber College and was then a scholarship graduate of the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City, Mike joined the Canadian Forces as a musician in 2002 and has since performed extensively with the Forces worldwide while posted in Ottawa and Winnipeg. Now residing (back) in Ottawa, Mike is a very in-demand musician performing with many ensembles including the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra, and with his own trio playing hard-hitting arrangements of classic jazz repertoire in the hard-bop style.
