Drew Jurecka, Adrean Farrugia, and Clark Johnston

Join Drew Jurecka, Adrean Farrugia, and Clark Johnston for an evening of virtuosity and creativity as they perform renditions of songs ranging from swing-era favourites to American songbook standards to originals.
Drew Jurecka – violinist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. Currently up for a Record of the Year Grammy for his string arranging, playing and engineering work for pop sensation Dua Lipa. Drew has produced and recorded countless arrangements for artists including as Hailee Steinfeld, Donovan Woods, Jill Barber, Bahamas, Rose Cousins, Royal Wood, Dermot Kennedy, Bülow and Ron Sexsmith. Classically trained but comfortable in all genres, Jurecka performs primarily on violin, but also viola, saxophone, clarinet and mandolin and most recently on bandoneon as a member of the Payadora Tango Ensemble, for whom he has also composed, arranged and produced.. After completing his bachelors of music at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music, Jurecka spent 5 years touring with Jeff Healy. He is a well established member of the Toronto jazz scene, and an in demand session musician, arranger and producer. He has performed on literally hundreds of albums for artists such as Alessia Cara, Chantal Kreviazuk, Jesse Cook and Buffy Sainte-Marie. He has composed for film and television and his orchestral arrangements have been performed by groups such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
Adrean Farrugia – Award winning pianist and composer Adrean Farrugia began playing piano at the age of 12. By age 16 he recognized that he would dedicate his life to music. Since then he has become recognized as one of Canada’s most sought after pianists and composers, having shared the music he loves globally with various bands across Canada, the United States, London UK, Paris, Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Australia, Poland, and The Netherlands with artists such as Ernie Watts, Sheila Jordan, Brad Goode, Cyrille Aimee, Matt Dusk, Molly Johnson, Joel Frahm, Ernesto Cervini, The Worst Pop Band Ever and others. Adrean serves on the faculties of Mohawk College and Humber College and has conducted masterclasses and workshops for students at the University of Colorado at Boulder, the Sydney Conservatorium, the Polish Jazz Society Summer Workshop, and the University of Toronto. Adrean has played on more than 40 albums to date garnering 2 Juno awards, 8 Juno award nominations, a Mark Award for ‘Best Production Music Artist’ from the Production Music Association of America, ‘Pianist of the Year’ at the Hamilton Arts Awards, and a nomination for the Ontario Arts Council’s Louis Applebaum Composer’s Award. Adrean believes that music is a powerful form of communication that has the power to heal and inspire both the performer and the listener, as well as revealing a higher sense of being which exists in all people, and it is this belief that drives his continued journey and commitment to musical growth and sharing. Adrean Farrugia is endorsed by Shigeru Kawai Pianos.
Clark Johnston – started his professional career as a bassist in 1994 and since has had the opportunity to work with the likes of Peter Appleyard, Diana Panton, Reg Schwager, and Don Thompson – just to name a few. He performs regularly with Drew Jurecka, Adrean Farrugia, James Brown, Neil Brathwaite, and Ashley St Pierre, as well as many other great musicians. Clark has released three CDs with Shields Johnston Fielding featuring his original compositions and can be heard on many other people’s recordings. He holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition as well as a Bachelor of Education from York University. In addition to teaching at Mohawk, Clark is currently on faculty at McMaster University and Hillfield Strathallan College.
